On Friday, Sept. 5th, Bill Winchester, a Truckee Meadows Fire Dept. Captain, athlete, family man, and all-around awesome guy was severely injured while on a road-bike training ride in South Reno. He fractured many vertebrae, ribs and his sternum, and his T3 and T4 vertebrae were displaced and he lost feeling below his chest. A very competent and wonderful neurosurgeon operated Friday night and fused his thoracic spine while releasing pressure on the spinal column. He is currently in ICU at Renown just beginning the long road to healing. We are truly touched and feel so blessed that so many people from the community and beyond have offered to help. We are hoping this website will organize this awesome effort. Family and friends (and tons of firemen) are hoping and praying at this point that he has the best recovery possible. Updates will be forthcoming.
